Rapid-Response Team from Washington DC, Panama, Colombia and Peru join PAHO Ecudaor staff for emergency coordination and needs assessment and providing coordination of the health, water, sanitation and nutrition thematic groups. Experts in sanitation and water were dispatched to assist in evaluating hospitals, a communications expert was deployed to help the Ministry of Public Health. Logistics experts from PAHO / WHO are collaborating with authorities of the Directorate of Drugs in the implementation of a system to send drugs in an orderly and efficient manner to health facilities in areas affected, and training volunteers. The LSS / SUMA was installed on two drug collection centers: in Manta and in Quito. The Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security, the Directorate of Coordination, ECU911, Mesa 4 and Humanitarian Aid in Crisis Room also are using it. Ecuadorian health authorities can know what drugs are available, and can assign priorities according to the needs of those affected by the quake.
